Vowing to ban secret evidence
And to champion civil rights
He earned their support
They were under siege
And unsatisfied
They voted for him
And made a difference
In an election that was razor-thin
Which the courts
Had almost nullified
He asked for time
To get the country together
To rally support
That soon had multiplied
They waited patiently
And as good citizens
Lobbied congress
To get the law ratified
Then came 911
The disaster,
The tragic crime
When the whole world
Was horrified
Everyone stuck together
Against the perpetrators
People had never been
More unified
He then announced
We’d be after the criminals
Not their faith,
Which the media
Has vilified
Soon after, without much debate
The PATRIOT Act would pass
And against the besieged community
The hunt has intensified
It did not matter
That all have condemned
The horrible crime,
Denounced the perpetrators
Whom their logic
They’ve defied
He went to Kabul
To punish and bring them to justice
In a mission that many thought
Was justified
Fresh from victory
He started another war
Against a threat
That was amplified
Meanwhile, here at home
He was cracking hard
On civil rights
Jailing thousands on scant evidence
That was not verified
The sympathy America had
A short while ago
Is now gone
Most people see a bully
That’s become wild
And must be mollified
Our troops are now stuck
In a quagmire,
In a war that’s unpopular
And its logic simplified
People are demanding
To end the witch hunts
And the false persecutions
To support the constitution
And the bill of rights
That is glorified
To stop the war,
Bring back the troops,
And to elect a new leader
Who’s more qualified
