The world has forever
Suffered
And has never since
Recovered

Every grave sin
And every wrong
That’s heavy
Has a root in either
Arrogance, Greed
Or Envy

Wars and aggression
Injustice and oppression
Racism and hatred
Denial of the sacred
Exploitation of the weak
Punishing those daring
To stand up and speak

Crimes against humanity
Challenging reason and sanity
Genocide and torture
Poverty and ignorance
Suffocating tyranny
Execution of innocence

If man would only learn
How to love and embrace
Humble himself
Give up the wild race
Of being self-centered
Wearing a smile
On her beautiful face

Peace on earth
Is what to strive for
The ultimate goal
For every human being
And every valiant spirit
For every animal, river, and tree
The north and south
The orient and occident
For every faith
Culture
Language
Customs that may not agree
And then some more

Peace on earth
Shall spread and sweep
When arrogance is replaced
With genuine respect and civility
Greed with sacrifice and providence
And envy with love
That’s truly deep

For the ship of humankind
To properly sail
A, G, and E must
Utterly fail
That’s when justice
Would ultimately prevail
And peace on earth
Would surely hail
